SIGNED BY STAN LEE ON 4/25/15  9d or "Pence Price Variants" are the very first price variants. They also have an estimated print run of 1/50th of the 12 cent version.  Both were produced on the same presses with evidence leaning toward the 9d variant as having been produced ahead of the 12 cents version. 9d Covers are usually deeper in color saturation, typical in early press runs, and Marvel chipping is virtually non existent, indicating use of a sharp blade (early) vs a dull blade (end of press run). As for Scarcity, todays CGC census numbers speak for themselves: X-MEN #1 CGC Census as of 8/5/22 12 cent version: 629 Signed & 5704 Total Graded 9d version  14 Signed & 103 Total Graded  The 9d version is 57 x scarcer than the 12 cent alternative.
